CODE OF CONDUCT FOR MEMBERS

As A Member of Richmond Youth Forum You Have The Responsibility To Uphold The Following Ethos and Principles:

1.The Youth Forum is an independent national body, which seeks to represent no party political view; we are therefore not the mouth piece for any political party.

2.Richmond Youth Forum is an independent body seeking to represent the views of the young people of Richmond upon Thames.

3.The Youth Forum will ensure that the young people of the UK are given a voice on any issue that affects them and as laid out in Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, as long as it does not affect the rights of others.

4.The Youth Forum will respect the issues as laid in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, to ensure that every young person who participates in the work of the Youth Forum has his/her rights respected and protected.

5.Any young person up to and including the age of 19, has the right to have his/her view heard and be listened to by the Youth Forum.

6.As a member your duty is towards the young people in Richmond upon Thames Borough that you represent i.e. your school or youth group.

As A Member You Have A Duty To Comply With The Following Expectations:

1. To have read and understood the Youth Forum Constitution, and undertake your term of office accordingly.

1.As a member it is important that you take your role and duty seriously when you are representing the Youth Forum, both in and outside Youth Forum meetings.

2.Youth Forum Members must ensure that all mobile phones are either on silent or switched off during meetings

3.When debating issues Youth Forum Members must attack the issue and not the individual.

4.To communicate with others (whether they be adults or young people) within the framework and philosophy of equal opportunities.

5.To promote the Youth Forum in a way that will not harm the reputation of the organisation.

6.To actively engage with young people in your constituency and represent their views at a local, regional and national level.

7.As a member you have a duty to attend Youth Forum meetings, arrive on time and make sure that there are transport arrangements to and from your place of meeting.

8.If you cannot attend a Youth Forum meeting you should inform your adult support worker, and send your apologies to the meeting.

9.When communicating in writing, eg – via a letter or email, a member should remember to respect the views of others, be courteous at all times, use clear English and consider equal opportunities legislation. All letters etc need to be agreed by the Youth Forum Executive or circulated on the Egroup before being sent.

10.If the members of the Youth Forum feel that a member has broken the guidelines as laid out in the “Code of Conduct” or Constitution, the Youth Forum’s Disciplinary Procedure will be applied.
